n the evening of January 3rd, 2016, Other Books organised a session with the translator of Allama Iqbal. Shikwa & Jawab Shikwa (The Complaint and the Answer) has been Allama Iqbal's well-aclaimed poetry in Urdu. A passionate complaint of a believer and a compassionate answer from God, this beautiful piece of poetry is termed a classic both in terms of literary genuis and religious thinking. Islamic Book Trust, Kuala Lumpur, has recently come up with a fresh and remarkable English translation of the work.
Other Books invited the translator, Mr. Abdussalam Puthige, a writer and journalist based in Mangalore, to share his translation experiences, the pain and pleasure of living with, conversing with, romancing with a larger than life author and his famous masterpiece. Although Allama Iqbal is a well-known poet and philosopher, there are several aspects historically overlooked and downplayed throughout his works.
Mr. Abdussamad Samadani, writer and orator, has talked during the occasion.
The "Tea with Translator" evening also included a Kerala launch of the Shikwa & Jawab Shikwa (The Complaint and the Answer) English edition brought out by IBT. Shamsuddeen master Tirurkkad received the copy. Ali Ahsan welcomed the audience and Auswaf Ahsan cast vote of thanks.
