Mustapha Cherif
Mustapha Cherif is an Algerian philosopher, diplomat, and academic who specializes in international relations and cultural dialogue:
Academic and diplomatic positions
Cherif served as the Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and as the Algerian Ambassador to Egypt. He is also a permanent delegate at the Arab League.
Writing
Cherif has written many books and articles on religion, civilization, and cultural dialogue, including Un intellectuel musulman chez le Pape (2011), Le Coran et notre temps (2012), La communauté médiane (2012), and Le défi du savoir en Algérie (2013).
Awards
Cherif received the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture and the Ducci Foundation Peace Prize in 2013.
Other activities
Cherif is a member of the World Catholic-Muslim Forum and a signatory co-founder of the letter A Common Word. He participated in the public debate between himself and Jacques Derrida in Paris in 2003, which focused on the relationship between Islam and the West.
Current status
Cherif is currently a professor at the University of Algiers.
